PSX emulator for GP2X
It may only be at Beta 4, but there’s now a real world PSX emulator for the GP2X. PSX4GP2X can run many original PlayStation games, with several listed as running at “full speed”, with “no noticeable problems”. There’s a few videos of the Beta 4 version of PSX4GP2X on YouTube, and although most of them run painfully slow, it’s still impressive to see so many PlayStation games running at all on the GP2X.

‘Must have’ GP2X software
If you’ve just picked up a GP2X, the huge amount of software and console emulators available can be a bit intimidating. Here’s a quick list of the best software for the GP2X – and as with 99% of all GP2X, it’s all absolutely free.
DrPocketSNES/PocketSNES
A combination of SquidgeSNES and PocketSNES – runs pretty much every SNES game at fullspeed including transparencies and partial SuperFX chip support.
DrMD – Sega Genesis/Master System/Game Gear emulator
Originally written for the GP32, DrMD is an emulator for the Sega Megadrive, Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear. Plays everything from Alex Kidd to Sonic.
MAMEGP2X
MAME for GP2X! Plays a huge amount of MAME roms inluding most Neo-Geo games.
GnGeo2x – Neo-Geo emulator
GnGeo2x is a GP2X port of the GnGeo Neo-Geo emulator. It plays many Neo-Geo games at full speed with sound – a total must have for Neo-Geo fighting game fans.
GnuBoy2x – GameBoy emulator
Plays monochrome and GameBoy Color roms. I love some of the old monochrome GB games, so Gnuboy2x gets a lot of use on my GP2X.
GPFCE – NES emulator
One of the best NES emulators ever written. GPFCE runs all the classic Nintendo games – Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Tetris etc.
VICE2X – Commodore emulator
Emulates all the classic Commodore machines – C64, C128, Plus4, Vic20, PET, CBM-II. Runs at full speed for most software.
Beat2x
Fantastic DDR/Stepmania clone for the GP2X. Incredibly addictive, runs fast and looks (and sounds) great.
FloboPuyo
FloboPuyo is like Tetris with blobs instead of bricks. Runs beautifully on the GP2X.
GP2X Payback full version released
We were starting to think it might never happen, but after a long wait, Payback has finally been released for the GP2X – and it looks stunning. Payback has over 50 missions, in 11 cities, and is totally non-linear – so you can do pretty much whatever you want – from stealing cars and trucks, to following specific missions, or just going nuts. And yes, it supports TV out! You can download the demo or purchase the full version of Payback (on a 512MB SD card) here.
GP2X firmware update
GP2X firmware version 2.1.0 has just been released. There’s plenty of new features and bug fixes including a new skin selector, improved video and audio players, and a few improvements to the ebook reader.
GP2X case
We’ve been carrying our GP2X around in the bubblewrap bag that it shipped in, which is pretty sad. Most Nintendo DS cases will happily accomodate a GP2X, and we’ve come pretty close to getting one – but it’s just not right to put a GP2X in a Nintendo case. So we’ve gone and bought the original, official GP2X case from Gamepark Holdings – no pastel colors, no pretty graphics, just plain understated black with a chrome badge – which suits the GP2X nicely indeed.
