GP2X
The GP2X is the successor to the popular GP32, and is one of the most versatile and flexible handhelds ever released. The GP2X is open source (it runs Linux), and there’s a large community of ‘homebrew’ software developers making applications and games for it. The hardware is well designed too - dual core 200mhz CPUs, 64MB ram, SD card slot, TV-output, 3.5 inch TFT LCD 320×240 backlit screen, and upgradeable firmware.
Console emulators
The GP2X can emulate many classic gaming systems including the NES, SNES, PlayStation, GameBoy, GameBoy Advance, Sega Megadrive/Genesis, Sega Master System, Spectrum, C64, Atari, PC Engine, Neo-Geo, Neo-Geo CD, and MAME. Combined with the TV-Out capability of the GP2X, this makes it an ideal ‘mini console’ for playing all your favourite classic games on your television, or an excellent portable games system using the built in screen.
Commercial and homebrew games
In addition to the excellent emulator support, there’s already many commercial and homebrew games and utilites available for the GP2X, including new games and also remakes and ports of classics.
Video
The GP2X has built in support for DivX, XviD, MPEG-4 and avi - so you don’t need to re-encode your movies. Just put them on an SD card and you’re set. The GP2X scaling chip resizes almost any size/resolution movie to fit the screen - and with the TV-Out you can watch them on your TV too.
Audio
The GP2X supports various audio codecs including MP3, WMA, and OGG.
Photos and ebooks
The GP2X can display photos (JPG, BMP, PNG, GIF etc) and read text files.
Firmware
The firmware in the GP2X can be upgraded, so you can easily update the GP2X as new firmware features are introduced.

Is there a PlayStation emulator for the GP2X?
There is, but it’s not really playable yet - look here for more info. There’s some gameplay clips on YouTube, but the framerates are soooo slow - still, it’s better than what we had six months ago.
Nice and informative site. Keep up. My GP2X F-100 MK2 version seems to have problems with the E-Book function (it will crash my GP2X whenever I tried to view text file with eBook)
also it doesn’t like cheap 2500 mAh NiMh batteries..what gives, thanks for any help
